Research into Microstructure of Double Layer Cemented Carbides with Different WC Grain Size

  Sintering under high nitrogen pressure has been applied to prepare functionally graded WC-TiC-Co cemented carbides.The effect of WC grain size on the gradient microstructure has been investigated.The results show that a face center cubic(FCC)rich surface layer formed during nitriding process and the thickness of surface layer decreases as mean WC grain size decreases,showing that there is a constraining effect of ultrafine WC grains on the gradient microstructure formation.The liquid phase migration mechanism of the double layer cemented carbide with various WC grain size is discussed through analyzing the diffusion distance of Ti,N,Co and W.
