Investigation of Cryogenic Mechanical Properties and Fracture Mechanism of Tungsten Alloy
A series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of low-temperature on the fracture mechanism of 93W-5Ni-2Fe tungsten alloy(WHA)prepared by metallurgical method with temperatures in the range of-80~-10 ℃ and every test per 10℃.The fracture mechanism of alloy in low temperature environment was studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).It is showed that tensile yield strength of material increased with decreasing temperatures, but contrary to elongation. With the temperatures decrease, fracture mode is gradually transforming from cleavage of the tungsten particles and matrix failure to the crystalline fracture of the tungsten particles and the fracture mode of the adhesive phase.
