Cr Doping WCoB-Based Ceramic with Improved Mechanical Property by Using SPS
The densification behavior, microstructure and mechanical properties of Cr doping WCoB-based ceramic composites, fabricated using the spark plasma sintering(SPS)technique were investigated. As the sintering temperature exceeds 1100 ℃,the relative density does not significantly change. The density and particle size of WCoB greatly influence the mechanical behavior of WCoB–10wt%Co composites. The content of secondary borides(Co2B)which are brittle phase, can influence the mechanical properties. The Co2B disappears when the temperature is above 1050 ℃.The Cr doping improves the hardness significantly. For the experimental conditions considered, the cermets with 10 wt%Cr addition and 1170℃ sintered temperature revealed best mechanical properties. The relative density and Vickers hardness of the cermets were 99.78%,17.87GPa,respectively.The results obtained provide insight into fabrication of ceramic composites with improved mechanical property.
