The Study on Local Governance Capacity of Social Contradictions and Its Performance: Chongqing as an Example

　　China is now in the social transform period, and the social conflicts are increasing and complex which is a big challenge for local governance.Local government is the coordinator and plays an important role in dealing with social conflicts.How is the performance of governance of social conflicts? What factors influence the performance of local governance? Based on the literature review and the cases, this paper builds an analysis framework and studies on the above questions by collecting1172 questionnaires and interviewing in more than 10 districts and counties in Chongqing.The results show that the capacity for keeping stability in the aftermath has the biggest influence on the performance; the capacity for facilitating citizen participation in local governance comes second; the capacity for guiding public opinion and the capacity for emergency management come third.Therefore,local government should pay more attention to the capacity for keeping stability in the aftermath and the capacity for facilitating citizen participation in local governance, and meanwhile, improves the capacity for guiding public opinion and the capacity for emergency management to deal with social conflicts.
