On Brittle Risk Sources of Emergent Crisis Events-A Case Study of Campus Emergencies
Campus system is a complex system which has the features of openness, complexity, huge amount, evolvement, emergence, and hierarchy.Along with the increase of its scale and levels, there will be higher demand for its comfort and higher level of dependence on it.Therefore, a subsystems collapse may result in the breakdown of the whole system, indicating the brittleness of the complex system. In this context, brittle risk sources of a complex system are discussed on the basis of exploring the definition, features, and model of brittleness. Then, brittle risk sources of campus emergent events are classified into four first-level sources and are evaluated by adopting the catastrophe progression method. Finally, according to the effect of their influences, the four sources are ranked as: School source > Family source > Source of other subjects > Individual source.
