A Study on ZrO2 Ceramic Cores Doped with MgO Used for Titanium Alloy Casting
Nowadays, refractory used in titanium alloy casting are mainly ZrO2 and Y2O3.However, the application of ZrO2 was restricted by the unstable crystal transformation and high price. In this study, we developed a new ZrO2ceramic doped with MgO and also provide a better ingredient, which can reduce the cost as well as satisfying the needs for titanium casting. The experimental results indicate that the bending strength of ceramic core declines first and then rises as the increase of MgO content. However the apparent porosity shows an opposite trend, while the density of ZrO2 ceramic always decrease in this process. The maximum thickness of contamination layer is 45μm.The ZrO2 ceramic core doped with 20% MgO is estimated to be the most suitable ingredient.
