Continuous Casting: Way of Unlimited Options
At all times,the steel makers are searching for options to simplify production or to increase the productivity of the steel production plants.Several examples will be described.One way is to pour steel melt continuously and make the material ready for hot rolling and forging with high materials efficiency.The industrial continuous casting(CC)processes for steel started in the mid of the 20th century.The development came to cross roads,trying different and testing options.Picking-up the example of casting and rolling to manufacture thin flat steel sheets,several ways and means will be discussed,taking into account also different steel grades.Like all the time of CC applications,there are wishes and visions,options,offers and opportunities.Some ways to find the correct directions for future approach depending on existing research and development institutions shall be scheduled under changing conditions for both materials,those the casting machines are built of and those which have to be cast.Additionally,some demands on R&D will be high-lighted.
