Research on BOF End-Carbon Prediction Based on the Converter Nose Flame Spectrum Analysis Techniques

Based on multi-spectral multiple analyses of the flame spectrum, the technic and equipment of non-contact analysis on the flame spectrum at the converter nose were developed to predict end-carbon in this paper.Through the variation of flame spectrum analysis at the converter nose during main blowing, the relation between the multi-spectral intensity distribution patterns and the carbon content of the liquid steel was build up,the end-carbon prediction model using flame spectrum analyze was established. With 337 heats test on 70 ton BOF,the end-carbon were set on three range which are C ≤ 0.05%±0.02%,0.05-0.15%±0.03%,and >0.15%±0.05%,the prediction accuracy was 83.8%,80.1%and 85.6%respectively.It is shown that the charging process, slagging process as well as the oxygen blowing process have basically no effects on the result of prediction. This technology has some merits such as low investment and maintenance cost, and free from the influence produced by manual operation and the adverse environment of the steelmaking field.
