Influence of Heat System on MnS Inclusion in Heavy Rail Steel
Influence of heat system on MnS inclusions in high rate heavy rail steel was systematically studied in the current study. The change process of MnS inclusions in casting bloom and steel rail were in-situ observed by confocal laser scanning microscope.According to the results of in-situ observation, the effect of heat and insulation treatment on MnS inclusions in casting bloom and steel rail was studied in the electrical resistance furnace. The laboratory results show that MnS inclusions begin to dissolve in the steel at about 1170-1180℃ and the slender MnS can be controlled through heat and insulation treatment in rail steel.Based on laboratory results, the plant trial of bloom heating and rolling under various gas temperature and holding time was performed. The morphology and distribution of MnS inclusions were compared. The exorbitant heating temperature leads to the formation of the strip MnS inclusions or reticular MnS along the grain boundaries during the cooling process. Thus, the key of MnS inclusions control in heavy rail steel is proper heating temperature and holding time to achieve the dissolution of MnS in the bloom edge and avoid the aggregation precipitation of the central MnS inclusions.
