Numerical Predication of 3-Dimensional Surface Part with Double Curvature using Flexibly-reconfigurable Roll Forming

Flexibly-reconfigurable roll forming(FRRF)process is an advanced continuous deformation process for three dimensional surface parts. The principle of FRRF process is that the flat sheet is passed through the non-uniform distribution the gap between the upper and lower reconfigurable rollers, and then the 3D surface part can be obtained. In this present study, the non-uniform distribution of gap between upper and lower reconfigurable rollers is focused. The target curve of circular arc is selected due to its superiorities such as representation and simplicity. The control functions of upper and lower reconfigurable rollers are expressed using circular function with linear increment reduction ratio.Elastic-plastic finite element method is applied to simulate the forming process. The 3D surface part with the profile of circular arc in the transverse direction is obtained. The equivalent stress and equivalent plastic strain are analyzed. The results shows that the accuracy and quality of 3D surface parts can meet the requirement in industry.
