Study on Combustion Characteristics of Solid Propellant according to Igniter Injection
Combustion analysis is a key component of the interior ballistics because it affects the various performance factors.To ignite the solid propellant,high temperature igniter gas is injected to the chamber through the side hole of the primer.It means that the injection characteristics have a significant impact on the combustion of solid propellant.Therefore,researches on the effects of the igniter injection are needed for precise analysis of the interior ballistics.In this study,a combustion characteristic of the solid propellant according to the igniter injection has been analyzed using the 2-D numerical code.The virtual gun has been adopted for the analysis of interior ballistics.Targeting the 132mm gun,various types of primers have been assumed.Depending on the primer,the pattern of igniter injection has been changed.Combustion analysis has been conducted using the various primers under the same condition.As a result,in response to the change of the igniter injection,the combustion characteristics have been changed.Based on the results,the injection characteristic of the igniter seems to be a major factor that affects the combustion phenomena of the solid propellant in the interior ballistics.
