Experimental application of Improved Hilbert Huang Transform for the detection of air-gap eccentricity in induction motors
In this paper, the improved Hilbert-Huang Transform(HHT)technique based on Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition(EEMD)method is applied to the detection of rotor faults in induction motors mainly caused by air-gap eccentricity. The method is one of the time-frequency domain analysis techniques that can be used to analyze non-stationary and nonlinear signals. For this,we conducted an experiment using an induction motor under healthy and unhealthy condition by controlling the air-gap eccentricity. Then a spectrum analysis using the improved HHT was applied to the stator current signals of the induction motor obtained via the experiment. The result demonstrates that the improved HHT technique can detect the fault clearly.
