Adaptive Modeling and Research of Indoor and Outdoor Wireless Signal

The purpose of this study is to analyze WiFi signal propagation, using IEEE 802.11g radio interface. We propose several Log Distance Models for WiFi in different conditions: indoor/outdoor.WiFi signals were generated by WA21110-GN(AP)and monitored by smartphone application. The measurement of this signal is taken at a corporation environment. The Log Distance path loss model is used as the mathematical analysis tool, the unknown parameters is estimated using Least Square(LS)method and we propose a discrimination mechanism to judge whether the current environment is indoor or outdoor and then determine which propagation model to adopt. The experimental results show the effectiveness of proposed criteria for adaptive channel model and the average indoor ranging error is 2.10m while the average outdoor ranging error is 1.25m.
