Authentic Leadership and Its Application in China
This paper specifies the content of authentic leadership in a Chinese social and cultural context.Firstly it reviews the Chinese and foreign literature on the theory of authentic leadership and then profiles the conditions and motivations for ethical leadership in China.A range of methods are applied, including literature research, qualitative interviews, open-ended questionnaire survey, and structured questionnaire survey enabling exploratory factor analysis of the survey data.Based on this, authentic leadership is found to consist of five main elements including subordinate orientation, internalized morality, leadership qualities, honesty and self-awareness.The paper further explores the determinants and mechanisms of the authentic leadership process, and proposes a multi-factor whole-process authentic leadership model including leaders, followers, environment and values.Finally, the authors provide recommendations of how to.strengthen authentic leadership building.
