The Trend of US National R&D Competitiveness and Its Response of Higher Education

　　The United States, whose competitiveness has ranked on top for many years, is home to highly sophisticated and innovative companies operating in very efficient factor markets.The country is also endowed with an excellent university system that collaborates strongly with the business sector in R&D.What is the relationship between R&D competitiveness and higher education? This article examines the deep educational reasons and responses for the R&D competitiveness by ways of data analysis on the national competitiveness indicators, R&D expenditure intensity, and federal government R&D expenditure intensity.The key finding is that US government has made efforts on prospering university scientific research development and paid attention to the science and engineering talent training.
