Preliminary Study on Happiness of Chinese College Students from the Perspective of Positive Psychology
This paper aims at investigating the happiness level of Chinese college students through self rating scale.According to the research, among the 312 respondents, people with high level of happiness account for 43.59%; people with medium level of happiness account for about 29.16 %, and people with low level of happiness account for about 27.34 %.After processing and analyzing the result of Student Happiness Survey and classifying the source of happiness into 9 types, we find that satisfaction in emotion and feeling comes first; the satisfaction in senses and body ranks the second; in spiritual and aesthetical satisfaction ranks the third; satisfaction in materials and money just ranks the eighth.Then the 9 types of happiness source are sub-divided into 24 items among which friendship ranks the highest followed by the food.While money ranks the 23rd, career comes last.This demonstrates that the main source of happiness for Chinese college students is the good system of social support; there is serious disconnection between their studies and career; the satisfaction in materials and money is not the source of happiness for college students; lack of clear goals in life to fight for is the main reason for Chinese college students lack of ever-lasting happiness; the happiness of Chinese college students generally is slightly above the medium level; there is no significant difference between happiness level for males and females.
