On Non-governmental Organizations in Chinese Urban Community-A Case Study of Happiness Union in Canglang,Suzhou
In China, along with the advancement of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and the acceleration of urbanization, society is becoming more and more diversified.The diverse social needs in urban community construction make the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) play an increasingly important role.Particularly, in those fields where there are many serious social problems, the NGO provides a platform for the general public to participate in the social affairs.This cam make up for the deficiency of both the market and the govemment.As organizations for appealing for and protecting benefit, they further the social progress by playing a role that the government and enterprises are unable to play.The paper surveys the development of the NGO and reviews its history and present situation in China.Then its function and defects in the urban community construction are discussed and corresponding countermeasures are proposed by analyzing the Happiness Union in Canglang District, Suzhou City, so that the NGO can get more attention to promote its healthy development.
