The Role of Natural Resources in the Industrialization of Different Countries:Using Rare Earth as an Example

　　Rare earth elements are indispensable in modem industry, and could be called Industrial MSG (monosodium glutamate).China and Japan are two highly related countries concerning rare earth, among which China is the biggest exporter, while the Japan is a main importer in the world presently, and the profit mechanisms for the rare earth industries in China and Japan are completely different.In this paper, the author firstly discussed how China and Japan developed their respective rare earth industries, and then, by comparing Chinas path in developing the rare earth industry with Japans strategies in rare earth resources, this paper indicates that Chinas rare earth industry structure needs to be transformed and up-graded urgently.While with the positive efforts it has already made, China should adhere to the present reform path and accelerate the pace of reform.
