Surface engineering discipline and technology foundation in China
Surface failure analysis theory, surface friction and wear theory, surface corrosion and protection theory, as well as surface and interface combining theory, applied to the surface coatings, were developed to deepen the surface basic theory greatly. New surface technologies such as supersonic plasma spraying technology, high velocity arc spraying technology, nano electro-brush plating technology, and nano anti-friction self-repairing technology were also developed. Based on this, the uniform technology foundation of surface technologies was revealed deeply, such as mechanisms of fusion thermodynamics and rapid solidification kinetics of coatings, energy input and coating stress, inherent law among deformations, binding mechanism of interfacial bonding and cohesion of coatings, and service behavior and evolution mechanism of coatings, to promote the development of surface technology. Surface engineering concept was firstly proposed in China through the surface as study object and intersection of surface basic theory and technology, making China become the worlds second country to construct surface engineering discipline system.
