Novel induction hardening of automotive components
Presentation discusses novel scientific/engineering achievements and innovative technologies devoted to induction hardening of automotive components, including.1) Non-rotational crankshaft hardening (SHarP-C Technology). This technology eliminates a necessity to rotate crankshafts during surface hardening reducing crankshaft distortion, improving quality, and optimizing microstructure of hardened components and significantly increasing life expectancy and maintainability of inductors.2) Induction hardening of axle shafts and camshafts that allows improving performance of shafts.3) Induction hardening of gears, gear-like parts and other critical components, including ① Simultaneous dual-frequency hardening technology.② Induction hardening of hypoid and spiral bevel gears (170mm-280mm dia.). ③Teeth hardening of racks.4) Avoiding undesirable distribution of transient and residual stresses during surface hardening.5) Numerical computer modeling.Though more materials will be covered in a presentation, only induction hardening of crankshafts and gears will be discussed in this paper.
