Effect of heat treatment and vibration aging on mechanics properties of 2A12 aluminum alloys tube parts

In order to solve the problem of low hardness, strength and cutting performance of 2A12 aluminum tube parts under T4 condition with large wall thickness, five approaches were proposed: heat treatment under T4 condition after decreasing wall thickness, vibration aging, artificial aging under 180℃, artificial aging after vibration aging and vibration aging after artificial aging. The results reveal that the first approach can improve the hardness, tensile strength, yield strength and elongation significantly; the second approach can improve elongation except tensile strength; the rest approaches can improve materials hardness and yield strength but reduce elongation gently. Meanwhile some tubes hardness is found decreased in the second approach. According to these results, some methods were taken to improve the strength and cutting performance to fit the demands of parts.
