Brightening treatment of austenitic stainless steel after plasmas carburizing
The surface of AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel was covered with a layer of compact black thin-film after plasmas carburizing. The electrochemical brightening was carried out in order to renew the original color of stainless steel. Before and after brightening, the surface appearance, microstructures, microhardness and corrosion resistance of the samples were analyzed and compared. Experimental results showed that the electrochemical brightening treatment could restore the black surface to the original color of stainless steel. After electrochemical brightening The thickness and surface hardness of the carburized layer were reduced a little, but the corrosion resistance was much better than before. Therefore, the surface brightening treatment is very necessary for thae plasma carburized austenitic stainless steel.
