An approach to achieve thick single phase Fe2B coating by alternating current field enhanced pack boriding
A thick coating with single Fe2B phase was prepared by a novel method of applying a 50Hz alternating current field (ACF) with a current of 4A and a voltage of ~50V to boriding media during pack boriding. The coatings structure and phases were characterized. The results showed that the ACF can greatly enhance pack boriding and leading the formation of a 100μm thick single Fe2B phase boride coating on a middle carbon 45 steel at 800 ℃ for 4h. The mechanism of the ACFs function on the formation of the single-phase Fe2B coating is discussed from ACFs effects on enhancing chemical reactions in the boriding media and diffusions both in the media and the treated sample.
