Structure and properties analysis of anti-corrosion carburized layers in 304 austenitic stainless steels
Low temperature gas-phase carburizing technique (LTGCT), as one of the austenite stainless steel hardening techniques, has been widely valued and proved to be a very practical process with a promising prospect. This issue focuses on the LTGCT for austenitic stainless steels and the structure and properties of carburized layers, by utilizing micro hardness analysis, electrode potential analysis, scanning electric microscope, etc. Result indicates that when controlling the carburizing temperature at 470 *C, a hardened layer will generate without degrading the original corrosion resistance significantly. In the LTGCT treated austenite stainless steels, the effective thickness of hardened layers thickness can be more than 40fim, and the surface hardness dramatically rises to 800HV25 above. The corrosion resistance of the treated samples behaves better than the samples treated by regular carburization and nearly equals to the untreated AISI304 samples.
