Experiment and modeling of stress affected bainitic transformation
Isothermal dilatometric tests have been conducted to investigate the effect of stress on bainitic transformation in a plain carbon steel. Uniaxial compression and tensile loads are applied to cylindrical specimens during isothermal bainitic transformation, transformation temperature is between 350℃ and 500℃, the magnitude of applied stress is between -120MPa and 120MPa which is beneath the yield strength of overcooled austenite. Transformation plasticity strain is obtained from the measured dilatation curves. The transformation plasticity coefficient is a constant when the applied load magnitude is small, and the transformation plasticity coefficient is fitted as a linear function of isothermal transformation temperatures. The deviation of transformation plasticity strain calculated by using different transformation plasticity kinetics functions are studied. Measured values of transformation plasticity coefficient are compared with those predicted by using theoretical models.
