Microstructure of 2205 duplex stainless steel submerged arc welding joint by post weld heat treatment
Submerged arc welding process was used to weld 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS). OM, XRD and microhardness tester was used to analyze the variation of the welding joints with and without following heat treatment. It was found that the σ phase would disappear in the fusion zone of the welding joint with following heat treatment. While the amount of γ phase was decreased, and that of δ phase and a phase was increased, and a segregation distribution of δ phase, σ phase and γ phase was found at the welding seam after heat treatment. There were maximum values of microhardness in the fusion zones and at the welding seam center without heat treatment. However, those maximum values were disappeared as the joints following heat treatment. It can be attributed to the disappearing of some second phases at the process of heat treatment.
