C/C-SiC composite fabricated by chemical vapor infiltration combined with reactive melt infiltration
A low cost C/C-SiC composite was prepared by chemical vapor infiltration combined with reactive melt infiltration. Carbon fiber felt was firstly densified by pyrolytic carbon using chemical vapor infiltration to obtain a porous C/C preform. The silicon melt was then infiltrated into the porous preform at 1500℃ under a very low pressure up to 4×10-2 Pa to prepare the C/C-SiC composite. The as-received C/C-SiC composite was composed of C, SiC and Si phase. The flexural strength of the as-received C/C-SiC composite is 253 MPa, which is much higher than that of the C/C preform, 65.5MPa.
