Effects of Soil Surface Mulching on Apple Production
Soil surface mulching has been widely used to improve the economic and ecological benefits of apple. Soil surface mulching could change the field microclimate, improve soil physical and chemical properties, and reduce soil erosion. Meanwhile, Soil surface mulching could also promote apple tree roots growth and nutrients absorption, improve use effect of apple trees for soil water and soil nutrients, reduce the incidence of apple pests and diseases, increase chlorophyll content of apple tree leaves and crown growth, and promote the photosynthesis of apple tree leaves. And these contribute to growth and development of apple trees to improve the production structure and the quality. Therefore, soil surface mulching technology is one of important cultivation measures of pollution-free and in-depth study and application of it should be continued. The review will attempt to summarize the present application of soil surface mulching on apple production, and aim to provide a reference to further study of mulching on pollution-free apple production.
