Structural study of molten MgCh and MgCU-LiCl system by X-ray diffraction
The structure of pure MgCl2 melt and MgCl2-LiCl molten system was investigated by X-ray diffraction technique. The estimation of structural parameter based on Debye equation was carried out by random optimization method. The structural parameters were calculated by assuming the MgCl42- units in the melts, and both ionic distance and coordination number were estimated for pairwise Mg-Cl, Cl-Cl, LiCl and Mg-Mg. An interesting result was obtained that the structure of Mg-Mg pair corresponding to second coordination sphere were changed to be of lower coordination number by addition of LiCl.
