A Study on the Factors Affecting the Entrepreneurial Intention of Returned Migrant Workers—Based on a Survey of 10 Labor Output Provinces in China
How to support the returned migrant workers to start their own business draws increasing attention at the national level, because it is strategically significant for the labor output regions to coordinate the rural and urban development. This paper, based on a study of migrant workers from 10 labor output provinces, tries to explore the relationship between the entrepreneurial intention of returned migrant workers and the explanatory variables, through a binary Logistic model. The independent variables include demographic characteristics, support from family network, acknowledgement of economic status, working experience, the policy environment and the modernization level. The regression result shows that those young, married migrant workers with higher modernization level have a strong preference to start their own business. Although the effect of income is not significant, those who have a selfacknowledgement of relatively lower economic status are much more likely to start their own business. This indicates that most migrant workers start their own business mainly for survival. Whether the returned migrant workers have access to the related supportive policies doesnt significantly influence their entrepreneurial intentions. The contributions of policy as an exogenous variable are quite limited.
