Research on Wave Forces Interference Action Main Girders of Twin-Deck Bridges
When a bridge crossing a waterway or in ocean is partially or entirely submerged during a flood event or o-cean wave, its deck may be subjected to significant wave force. According to the time-varying wave forces acting on the bridges for various submergences, wave force interference actions between twin decks bridges were investigated preliminarily based on section physical model tests. The load distribution acting on bridge were calculated and analyzed. The experimental results have been analyzed, the Froude number of main girder and geometrical parameters of the bridge are discussed and compared against relevant literature Due to the presence of a free surface, force coefficients can be either larser (by more than a factor of 2) or lower than the corresponding values of the unbounded domain. The experimental drag coefficients are then compared with the results obtained by the momentum equation. The experiment and research aimed at the optimization of the structure of the bridge, the distance between the two bridges and the plan layout of the shore connection structure of the bridge were proposed. The experiment and research have not only provided the designers with the actual wave loads on the bridge structure, but also discussed how the wave force acting on two bridges should be estimated, thus proposing a calculation method that can be referred to during designing.
