An Analysis of Factors Associated with Esophageal Cancer Metastasis using 380 cases from Zhenjiang

To analyze possible risk factors associated with the high incidence of esophageal cancer(EC) in Zhenjiang area, Jiangsu province, as well as with its metastasis, and to make a summary of EC statistical features characteristic of this area, providing a guidance for studying EC pathogenesis. A total of 380 EC in-patients admitted in 2005 were collected. Using Chi-square test implemented in SPSS18.0 statistical software, significant relationships of factors with tumor type were analyzed, and using multiple conditional logistic regression analysis (MCLRA), EC clinical features of these patients, were examined, including sex, age, occupation, blood type and severity of lymphatic metastasis. Results of chi-square test showed that there is a significant relationship between, on the one hand, sex, place of living and differentiation grade, and on the other hand, tumor type, and that such significant relationship with tumor type was not observed for blood type, occupation and severity of lymphatic metastasis. MCLRA showed that Blood type, whose P value is less than 0.05, is an important factor influencing the state of lymphatic metastasis.
