An Empirical Study on the Determinants of Agricultural Households Participation in Contract Farming in Northeastern China

This paper explored the determinants of agricultural households participation in Contract Farming. Among many factors that impact smallholder decide to product under contract farming, the authors focus mainly on peasant households characteristics and the terms of agricultural contract. Using the peasant household survey data, the authors conduct a Logistic regression analysis. The result show that the size of farming land, the specialization of crop choice, the commercialization of agricultural product, the character of agricultural product, the terms of pricing and payment pattern under the contract impact the behavior of peasant households participation in contract farming significantly. The peasants who plant high value crop prefer to participate contract farming.
