Empirical Research on the Relationship between Economic Growth and Environmental Pollution: the Case of Hubei Province

The conflict between economic growth and environmental pollution has been a controversial issue. In this paper, an empirical research is made to test the relationship by making an econometric model based on the pollution and output equation using the 1990-2006 time series data of Hubei province. The research shows that the economic growth in Hubei province relies mainly on the fixed asset investment and export, and will lead to environmental degradation. While the promotion of environmental input on economic growth is very small. All those suggest that it is undesirable to promote economic growth by the cost of environmental pollution and at last the paper puts forward some relevant policy recommendations.
