Study on Electrolyte Jet Turning

This paper describes a development of a novel machining method which can conduct turning processes electrochemically using an electrolyte jet. Use of a flat jet in place of a cylindrical jet can improve the machining speed significantly without sacrificing the micromachining capability. Grooving, cutting-off, facing, and profiling can be carried out using a simple setup because there is no need to control the position of the nozzle for changing the depth of cut. Complicated shapes were fabricated successfully by changing the current. Small process force and no tool wear are additional advantages of this process in micromachining.
