The Role of Innovative Institutional Arrangements and Governance for Water Environmental Management:case studies-India
Water is a free gift by nature;it is indispensable for survival of living things.Water environmental management is in crisis,limiting economic development of the nation. Management of resource is not necessary if resources is abundant and is freely available;water is not exception to this.Innovative institutional arrangements are required because of certain extreme conditions experienced by people.In India due to topographical and other constraints, about 60% of i.e.690 billion 3metre from surface water and 432 billion 3metre from ground water,can be put to beneficial use. There is unequal distribution of water in India.Innovative institutions like WUA,JWA play important role sustaining better water environment. Institutional arrangements supplement with participatory governance system is required for management of water resources that will in turn contribute for development of the nation.
