Age-differentiated Visualization of Network Plans for Project Management Software
Demographic change demands new concepts for the support of computer work by aging employees. The use of the computer is often especially straining for older workers due to a lack of training, experience and age-specific changes in performance. To allow for a consideration of age-related preferences in system design three different visualization techniques of network plans (overview map, detail window and zoom function) were analyzed regarding their usability with different age groups. The results derived from data of 90 subjects between 20 and 75 years show that the best performance in terms of execution time and mental workload results from the visualization techniques “zoom function. However, the effect of the performance improvement through ergonomic visualization varies in size among the different age groups.
