How to Reconstruct 3D Coronary Arterial Tree from Two Arbitrary Views

Coronary heart disease has become one of the main threats of human health. And coronary angiography is taken as the “gold standard for the assessment of coronary artery disease. But sometimes, the images are difficult to interpret visually because of the crossing and overlapping of the vessels in the angiogram. Three-dimensional (3D) representation of coronary arterial tree topology facilitates calculation of hemodynamic measurements to study myocardial infarction and stenosis. So, clinician can reduce the radiation dose, imaging scan time and duration of human expose to contrast agent during acquisition of angiograms. In this paper, the algorithm for 3D reconstruction of arterial tree from two arbitrary views is presented. The program can be divided into five major steps: vessel segmentation, feature-points recognition, vessel skeleton matching, vessel diameter measurement, and three-dimensional reconstruction. By the help of progress of computer, the algorithm of 3D reconstruction can be calculated faster and faster. It has been possible to realize the real-time display during the surgery.
