Analysis of Magnetic Stimulation at Acupoint of Shenmen(HT7) on EEG using Nonlinear Approach

It has been shown that acupuncture at acupoint of Shenmen can change the activities of brain and cure some neural diseases in clinic. Magnetic stimulation is a new kind of stimulating technique of non-invasive and painless. In this work, the effects of magnetic stimulation by stimulating the acupoint of Shenmen are studied. Moreover, the connections between the brain functional state and the chaos level of the electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are investigated and we evaluate the feasibility of curing disease using magnetic stimulation. The experiments are divided into two groups: quiet stimulation and magnetic stimulation. The results show that the nonlinear dynamics characteristics such as correlation dimension, Lyapunov exponent, and sample entropy of the magnetic stimulation group are lower than the quiet group. The higher three parameters are, the more chaotic the brain is. Magnetic stimulation on acupoint of Shenmen decreases the chaotic level of EEG signals. The decrease of chaotic level of EEG signals means the decrease of the complexity and the increase of the order of brain state. Magnetic stimulation on acupoint of Shenmen has effect of changing the brain function, which has been proven to have the effect and feasibility of curing disease.
