APPLICATION ON DYEING WASTEWATER TREATMENT BY TOURMALINE

Nonmetallic mineral are widely used in the decoloration treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater. At present, the tourmaline is one of the research hotspots in nonmetallic mineralogy domain, particularly its environmental chemistry behavior. The synthetic dyeing wastewater and actual dyeing wastewater were decontaminated by the tourmaline. The influencing factors, such as adsorption time, reaction temperature, pH value, dosage, dyeing wastewater concentration and sizes, were studied in this article. The experimental results indicated that tourmaline has a selectivity to dyeing solution, especially to acid blue black(10B)dyeing solution. There have been researches on the adsorption of heavy metal ion onto tourmaline in detail (R. H. Wu et al. 2002, K. Y. Zhang et al 2004, L. Guo 2004,Z. X. Zhang 2003), but weakly application in printing waste water. The exploring research in the aspect has been done in this paper in order to understand and to grasp the tourmalines characteristics of the decolorization treating process in dyeing waste water, as well as the influence of the boundary condition to excavate suitable condition and achieve the best processing effect. 1 Experimental material and instrument 1.1 Material Tourmaline was collected from a pegmatite in Jiangxi. Characterization by thin slice appraisal and XRD analysis indicated that the sample was a black tourmaline. The chemical composition of tourmaline is: Al2O3 34.48%, B2O3 10.94%, K2O 0.036%, NaO2 0.91%, MgO 0.20%, SiO2 35.10%, Fe2O3 15.80% and H2O 2.85%. The tourmaline powder was prepared by small jaw crusher, cradle roll and ball mill, whose diameter was 74-45um, 45-23um and 23-18um respectively. 1.2 Instrument JL1166 Particle Size Analyzer was made by Chengdu Design Institute of Light Industry; 722S LXJ-2 Centrifuge was made by Shanghai Medical Machine Shop; JJ-1 Grea-power Electric Stirrer was made by Changzhou Guohua Electric Appliance Limited The best adsorption conditions were obtained that adsorption time is 60min, wastewater pH is 2.3, tourmaline size is 23-18um, reaction temperature is 35 ℃. The max absorption of 1000g tourmaline was 18g dye. When pearly mica dyeing wastewater absorbency was 0.457, decoloration rate could be up to 97.8% by tourmaline adsorbing. The research results indicated that tourmaline decoloration is a result of combined action of physical adsorption and chemical adsorption.
