Superiority and Application of Low-concentration Ozidant Method for Detecting COD of High-chlorine Wastewater

As one of the most important indicates in water quality monitoring, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a regularly- measured item characterizing organic matter. However, the existence of excessive chloride ions directly influences the accuracy of COD determination. So the research of high-chlorine wastewater is becoming more and more significant for industrial production and environmental protection. At present, the standard method for COD measurement is based on GB11914-89 in China, but there are some differences between the experimental data and the actual data in using the method under some circumstances, especially when detecting high-chlorine wastewater with low COD. The present paper determines the method in the following respects in order to solve the problems of detecting the COD of high-chlorine wastewater in a particular case. First, the proper condition such as sampling time, sampling location and the time of the test, etc. is decided. Second, several different experiments are carried out to find out a better way---the low-concentration oxidant method, to ensure the accuracy and precision of this method as far as the feasibility and security is concerned. Finally, some samples are tested and some reliable findings are obtained. In conclusion, the experiment demonstrates that the method established in this paper is superior for measuring the COD of high-chlorine wastewater in this particular case.
