Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) might play a role in the postprandial metabolism regulation in Duroc×Landrace×Large White growing barrows

Three Duroc×Landrace×Large White growing barrows (65.9±3.8kg BW)were fitted with a catheter in the carotid artery and fed a common corn-soybean meal based diet three times daily at 07:30, 15:30 and 23:30 h. Blood samples were taken from catheter immediately pre-feeding and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 hour post feeding to determine the changes in plasma tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) concentration. The results showed that plasma TNF-α concentration decreased significantly 1 hour post feeding (p<0.05), and increased significantly 6 hour post feeding (p<0.01), compared with the preprandial concentration. These results suggested that TNF-α might play a role in the postprandial metabolism regulation in pigs.
