Ezperimental Research on Heat Transfer of Natural Convection in Vertical Rectangular Channels
There are many research reactors which are fueled with plate type fuel elements. The flow channels in this type of reactors are special, because the clearance of the channel is very small to the width and height. Under normal operating condition, the reactor was cooled by the forced convection. And much work has been done on the heat transfer of forced convection in this type channel. However, under some abnormal conditions, for example, the fully loss of coolant accident, the decay heat of the fuel can only be removed by the natural convection of air. Little work has been done on heat transfer of the natural convection of air in this type rectangular channel. In this work, experimental research on steady laminar natural convection of air in three vertical rectangular channels was conducted. Three experimental channels were 800 mm in length, 60 mm in width, and 1.0 mm, 1.8 mm and 2.5 mm in the gap depth, respectively. The vertical rectangular channels were heated indirectly on the two 60 mm wide sides electrically. Heat fluxes added to the air flow were calculated by the Fourier heat conduction law, with the data of temperatures collected directly with the thermocouples. The temperature distribution of the wall along the flow direction was given out. Moreover, correlations between Nu and Ra were investigated, and a good correlation was developed to correlate all the experimental data of these three channels, Nu =0.263 Ra0.308.
