Knowledge Management in the Life Cycle of Products
Knowledge Management (KM) is a strategic issue andhas as its mission to support managements effort indeveloping a more competitive company, applying theresource based view. Furthermore, KM is anorganizational issue as it is aiding in the effort toprovide a leaner and more effective organization.Finally, KM is about productivity and the application ofcomputers and computational intelligence in theproduction of goods and services.Concerned with the companys drive forimprovement, innovation and the creation of newknowledge, a holistic KM approach combines thesethree domains. Poorly managed knowledge costs thecompanies around the world billions of dollars.Knowledge can be developed, disseminated, shared,learned, stored and retrieve& likewise it can also bemanaged Computers, and the application ofcomputational intelligence, can improve profitability ifapplied together with the restructuring of companiesstructures, their business and production processes, andorganizational changes. We will in this paperdemonstrate the need for a holistie approach to the KMview for companies in the manufacturing industryplanning to create competitive advantage for itself.
