Aerobic granulation with landfill leachate in sequencing batch reactors
Aerobic granules were cultivated in two laboratory Scale sequencing batch reactors (SBRs)fed with landfill leachate.Seed sludge. From an oxidation ditch of the Landfill Leachate Treatment Plant in Tianjin, was added into both reactors as inoculum, while 3 g powdered activated carbon(PAC)was added into Reactor 1 additionally, with the PAC concentration of 1g·L-1.Due to some inhibitors to aerobic granulation. It took a long time for the start-up and granulation in both reactors.Granules began to appear in R1 after 40 days operation. And 32 days for R2.The stable granules of R1 were bigger in size and more uniform in distribution compared to the ones in R2.the mean diameters of mature granules were 0.60mm and 0.54mrn,respectively.More.Over,the stabifity and ability to withstand high-strength wastewater and shock loadings of granules in R1 were more excellent, the average removal effciency of COD1(total COD)was 64%,and 72%for COD5(soluble COD),95%for BOD5 under the organic loading rate of 3.82-4.81kgCOD+ m-3·d-1,during the stable operation period, the SVI value of the granular sludge was only 40-50mL·g-1.In comparison.Poor removal performances were achieved in R2 under the organic loading rate of 1.96—2.41 kgCOD1m-3·d-1
