Decoloration of rhodamine B dyeing wastewater by mineral-catalytic Fenton-like system of modified tourmaline
In our present paper, the decoloration of rhodamine B(RhB)dyeing wastewater by mineral-catalytic Fenton-like system of modified tourmaline(MT)and hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)is conducted and further investigations on the decoloration kinefics and mechanism are also carried out.Comparing with raw tourmaline(RT),MT can efficiently make RhB dyeing wastewater decolor in the presence of H2O2-.The RhB decoloration rates for the systems of RT,MT,H2O2 and RT/H2O2 are 1.43%,2.70%,7.62%and 13.37%respectively,but approaches 100%for the one of MT/H2O2 The increase in the RhB decoloration rate iS correlated with the MT dosage,H2O2 concentration and reaction temperature. In the pH range of 3.27 to 11,the decoloration rates can reach above 95%.While under the strong acid (pH=2.08)and alkaline(pH=12.85)conditions,the decoloration rates are lower.Kinetic research indicates that the decoloration reaction process followes a pseudo-zero order kinetic equation. With the reaction rate constant k positively correlated with the H2O2 concentration and MT dosage.Decoloration mechanism analysis showes that a mineral-catalyzed Fenton-like reaction may govem the decoloration process.Fe2+/Fe3+ dissolved from MT catalyses the decomposition of H2O2 to produce highly reactive hydroxyl radicals(·OH),which oxidizes the organic compound RhB.
