Pilot scale evaluation on algae-containing alum sludge conditining with PFB process
The presence of algae in source water causes problems in alum sludge conditioning.Conventional thicken process can not yield satisfied results. In this study, the alum sludge of a water plant in south China is taken as the object and pelleting fluidized bed(PFB)is applied to conditioning the sludge with a scale of 1.0~2.5m3/h.The experimental results show that by using PFB process.the optimum dosage of PAM is ranged from 3.6%o to 4.2%o.mainly due to longer sludge aging. The maximum flow rate of the PFB process is ranged from 1.6m3/h to 2.2 m3/h.The higher the TS the lower the maximum flow rate is.By additional lime dosage.the maxinlum flow rate of PFB is improved to 1.8-2.4m3/h,and the PAM dosage would be declined to 2.8%o-3.5%o.Compared with conventional process.the PFB process achieves much better sludge dewaterability characterizeal by better sedimentability, lower sludge specific resistant to filtration(SRF)and lower moisture content.Meanwhile.25%-50%of PAM dosage and 70% of lime dosage can be saved.
