Low Carbon Building Design:European experience
The built environment is key to achieving a more sustainable future. This paper considers the drivers for sustainability and the role of the built environment. It presents case studies from the European perspective and identifies and discusses some of the main design issues, such as,energy efficient design, renewable energy supply, embodied energy, cost and modern methods of construction. It appears that in the UK and Europe the construction industry is finally responding positively to the increasing demand for green buildings.
