AN ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE POTENTIAL AND OF BUILDING PERFORMANCE DEMANDS FOR ROMANIAN VRANCEA EARTHQUAKES

Damage spectra, based on the Park-Ang damage index, DM, were generated, for Vrancea events with moment magnitude larger than 6.0. Strength demand spectra were also computed, in order to assess the strength capacity required to limit the damage index to a specified (target) value. The resulted strength demands were then mapped, for several values of DM.μ u, and of structural period. Some applications of the approach, from the structural engineering point of view, were shown.
