Overview of Sensor Nodes in Wireless Sensor Network

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are identified as one of the most important and impactive technologies for 21st century, and are considered as the one of three high-tech industries in the future. They have recently emerged as a premier research topic. They have great long-term economic potential, ability to collect information from the target environment and comprehensive application. Wireless Sensor Networks combine a great many technologies, such as sensing, network communication, wireless transmission, embedded computation, distributed information processing, MEMS, programming etc.. Now, there are many literatures about WSNs, but each only presents one realization of each sensor network concept. The beginner needs entire and recapitulative understanding. This paper introduces the fundamentals of WSNs for people who want to study this field. The fundamentals mainly include the structure of WSNs, sensor nodes characteristics and requirements, sensor node architecture. The main aspects are introduced, such as processing unit, TinyOS, and so on.
